چکیده

We investigate two types of graph layouts, track layouts and layered path decompositions, and the relations between their associated parameters track-number and layered pathwidth. We use these two types of layouts to characterize leveled planar graphs, the graphs with planar layered drawings with no dummy vertices. It follows from the known NP-completeness of leveled planarity that track-number and layered pathwidth are also NP-complete, even for the smallest constant parameter values that make these parameters nontrivial. We prove that the graphs with bounded layered pathwidth include outerplanar graphs, Halin graphs, and squaregraphs, but that (despite having bounded tracknumber) series-parallel graphs do not have bounded layered pathwidth. Finally, we investigate the parameterized complexity of these layouts, showing that past methods used for book layouts don’t work to parameterize the problem by treewidth or almost-tree number but that the problem is (non-uniformly) fixed-parameter tractable for tree-depth.

Level Planarity Testing in Linear Time

In a leveled directed acyclic graph G = (V, E) the vertex set V is partitioned into k ≤ |V | levels V1, V2, . . . , Vk such that for each edge (u, v) ∈ E with u ∈ Vi and v ∈ Vj we have i < j. The level planarity testing problem is to decide if G can be drawn in the plane such that for each level Vi, all v ∈ Vi are drawn on the line li = {(x, k−i) | x ∈ R}, the edges are drawn monotone with resp...

Track Planarity Testing and Embedding

A track graph is a graph with its vertex set partitioned into horizontal levels. It is track planar if there are permutations of the vertices on each level such that all edges can be drawn as weak monotone curves without crossings. The novelty and generalisation over level planar graphs is that horizontal edges connecting consecutive vertices on the same level are allowed. We show that track pl...

Circle planarity of level graphs

In this thesis we generalise the notion of level planar graphs in two directions: track planarity and radial planarity. Our main results are linear time algorithms both for the planarity test and for the computation of an embedding, and thus a drawing. Our algorithms use and generalise PQ-trees, which are a data structure for efficient planarity tests. A graph is a level graph, if it has a part...
